The Happy Ones
Los Feliz, now an enclave of the hip and savvy, was once the very first exclusive area in LA, the Beverly Hills, if you will. The word itself means "the happy ones," though its name comes from the surname of the Spanish family that originally owned the preperty. In the 1930s, the moneyed movie-types shifted to Beverly Hills and the area fell into a slump until the 1980s, when it began to experience gentrification.
While home to many young hipsters, Los Feliz also has many of the finer old manisions in Los Angeles, including the Ennis-Brown House.
